Join Linda Gay, Horticulturist and Pat Hermes, Texas Master Florist for this combined horticulture lecture and hands-on floral design workshop on growing and arranging garden flowers. Linda’s horticulture lecture includes a copy of her recent edition of “Garden to Vase”, a guide to planning & planting a seasonal garden for cutting which outlines the best plants for cut blossoms to enjoy & arrange indoors. Pat will instruct the students during the hands-on design segment of the class in various techniques for designing flowers in glass vases including mechanics inspired by nature. Garden club members & students will be invited to tour the adjacent wholesale flower market following the workshop.
Linda Gay, a horticulturist & gardener by trade enjoyed 26 years of growing plants and developing a botanic garden for Mercer Arboretum which included being appointed to serve as director of Mercer from 2000 until 2011 when she retired from Mercer. She then continued her love of plants by spending 9 months with McGovern Centennial Gardens in Hermann Park training their new staff & volunteers best horticulture practices. Linda has instructed the Master Gardener classes in Harris & surrounding counties for over 25 years. Several years ago, she joined the staff at The Arbor Gate in Tomball where you can find her on most weekends to answer your questions and share her love of plants.
Pat Hermes, a Texas Master Florist, owner & director of Houston School of Flowers has been teaching the principles of floral design for over 30 years and during this time also instructed floral design for Rice University’s Department of Continuing Studies. Pat’s designs were photographed and published by the Houston Chronicle in 12 featured articles written by Kathy Huber, former gardening editor.
The fee for the combined horticulture lecture and hands-on floral design workshop is $75 and includes all materials, supplies and cut flowers. A deposit of $25 is required to reserve a space for the date of your choice which will be deducted from the tuition at the beginning of class.
